The PAP P14 Cylindrical Bush & Thrust Washer is a high-performance sliding bearing material that is maintenance-free and environmentally friendly. This material is a lead-free standard sliding material designed specifically for maintenance-free, dry-running applications, especially in the food industry. However, it can also be used in systems with liquid lubrication, although the use of grease as a lubricant is limited and not recommended.

The manufacturing process of the P14 material includes a specially adapted mixing process where the solid lubricant mass is produced. In a parallel, continuous sintering operation, bronze powder is sintered onto the steel back as a sliding layer. This results in a sliding layer with a thickness of 0.2 mm to 0.35 mm and a pore volume of approximately 30%. Subsequently, the cavities are filled with solid lubricant using impregnating rollers. This process step is controlled in such a way that a running-in layer of solid lubricant up to a maximum thickness of 0.03 mm is produced above the sliding layer. In further thermal treatments, the characteristic properties of the material system are adjusted, and the required thickness tolerances of the composite material are produced using controlled roller pairs.

Note: P14 material cannot be used in water (Alternatives: P180, P147, P10, P11). Sliding elements of various designs are produced from P14 material through cutting, stamping, and shaping processes. Standard designs include cylindrical bushes, flange bushes, thrust washers, and strips. In a final step, plain bearings made from P14 material undergo anti-corrosion treatment on the bearing back, end faces, and striking faces. The standard version is tin with a layer thickness of approximately 0.002 mm. Tin is used as temporary corrosion protection and an assembly aid.

Characteristics of P14 material include being lead-free, having a very low stick-slip tendency, low wear, low friction coefficient, no tendency to fuse with metal, and very low tendency to swell. Preferred areas of application include maintenance-free operation in dry-running conditions where lead-free parts are required, rotating or oscillating movements up to a speed of 1 m/s, linear movements, and a temperature range of -200°C to 280°C.

Hydrodynamic operation is possible without problems up to a sliding speed of 3 m/s. However, there is a risk of flow erosion or cavitation in continuous operation above 3 m/s. Motorservice offers the calculation of hydrodynamic operating states as a service.
